First Dates: Here’s What NOT To Talk About

The weekend is almost here. Do any of you cuties have first dates lined up? If so, here are a few conversation starters you might want to avoid…

The online dating site Zoosk just polled its members about first date dos and don’ts came up with some unsurprisingly stats about first date conversation topics. Of the singles surveyed, 67% said bringing up an ex is the worst thing to talk about on a first date. The second worst topic to bring up? According to 19% of Zoosk users it’s personal medical issues. And rounding out no-no’s were politics, which claimed 9% of the votes and religion which nabbed 6%.

Going on first dates can be fun and thrilling and sometimes that excitement gets the better of us and we slip up when conversing. Maybe you’ll get the punch line of a joke wrong. But bringing up a story about your ex? Never cool. And I can’t think of anyone who’d want to hear about ingrown toenails or whatever other medical maladies on a first date.

Generally, I’d agree with avoiding politics and religion on the first date. Unless of course you met while at the same political rally. Or if you met at your church’s singles mixer.

Do you agree that these four topics should be avoided on a first date? Should any other topics be avoided? Sex, maybe? And have you ever had a suitor bring up one of these topics on a first date?
