Happenings around Nola, besides it being hotter than heck, here are some cool things to do this weekend….

~ Fat Harry’s turns 40
On Saturday, June 25, this Uptown icon celebrates its 40th anniversary with an all-day party.

The festivities kick off at 11 a.m. Starting at 4 p.m., Fat Harry’s will roll back prices to the 1970s with $1 drafts and $2 Stoli cocktails. Each hour, the Stoli drinks get a little more expensive to reflect four decades of inflation, until at 7 p.m. they’ll go for the current price of $6. There will also be games, prizes and music from the bands Bacon and Flow Tribe. Everyone is encourage to dress in their favorite style from the last four decades.


~ Rebirth Brass Band to celebrate its 28th anniversary.
On Friday, June 17, Rebirth celebrates its 28th anniversary with a blowout at the Howlin’ Wolf. Show time is around 10 p.m.


~Chef Johnny Blancher prepares Oysters Bleu at Ye Olde College Inn

The appetizer is composed of a half-dozen fried oysters served atop a nest of shredded lettuce and rings of purple or red onion, piled with chunks of blue cheese marinated in olive oil. The cheese adds the extra salt that seafood lovers crave, Blancher said, and the onion adds bite to the otherwise “smooth flavors.”
